This article analyses the evolution in the connections (above all on production phases) between companies in local systems in Italy, focusing the attention on the so-called industrial districts.
Starting from the description of the main phases characterising the evolution of Italian manufacturing systems, it outlines the strategies of production decentralisation and work division among companies, as well as the factors influencing the contractual relations between contracting companies and sub-contractors.
